The Great Rann of Kutch
The Great Rann of Kutch is the largest salt desert in the world and is a sight to view. The long stretch of a salt swamp is a treat to the eye whenever one visit here. With a barren land that widens out towards the skyline, surrounded by dunes and some charming villages, this is definitely one of the best places to visit in Gujarat. Rann Utsav is a four-month-long desert carnival that glorifies the vivid culture and traditions, tasteful art and crafts & generous Kutchi hospitality of the region. The desert plains of Rann of Kutch transforms into an oasis of domestic and foreign vacationists during Rann Utsav, which is organised by Gujarat Tourism every year during winter.
Lothal & Dholavira
With ruins that date back to the ancient Indus Valley civilisation, you can step back into history here. Lothal was once a trading centre that was connected to the Sindh region(now in Pakistan), and Dholavira is an ancient city that has far been excavated and is believed to be over 100 hectares. It is the fifth largest out of the eight Harappan era sites in India. It is one of the UNESCO World Heritage sites of India.
Gir Wildlife Sanctuary
The only home of the Asiatic lion, one does not need any other reason to visit Gir Wildlife Sanctuary. One must visit this place when you are in Gujarat. It is considered to be one of largest territory for Asiatic lions, the area is well preserved due to the vast stretch of vegetation and other species residing in this sanctuary. Apart from the king of the jungle, there are leopards, hyenas and more than 250 birds.
