SodaBottleOpenerWala – an Irani/Parsi eatery – that ensures not only scrumptious food but an excellent theme-based ambience and a spot for mid-aged people. This sorely needed in Delhi. They invited us to feel the space a little while ago.
Located in the Khan Market near to Rule the Rolls. The restaurant name sounds like a caricature of a Parsi name. Stepping into SodaBottleOpenerWala, one will see a massive space of a restaurant, with various kinds of seating. Mostly every type of customers will love the place.
The restaurant entirely is done up in theme-based, i.e. Iranian style also has an excellent Bollywood retro playlist.
Space is vast and to balance it; one needs a delicious food and drink menu.
To begin, we asked for the Egg Kejriwal the hot-selling dish of the restaurant followed by Ghotala Pav, Bhuna Chicken Sandwich, Cheesecake and two variants of non-alcoholic drinks. The outlet has few hard of hearing and unable to speak servers, to order one should write the food name on a given piece of paper.
Egg Kejriwal- An interesting story attached to it and it goes like this- Mr Devi Prassad Kejriwal used to visit Willingdon (“a cricket club of India”)frequently. As his family were strictly vegetarian but he loved eggs, so he used to eat his favourite eggs at the club and thus the dish, and he became famous. They were deliciously “tempting“: two sunny-side-up eggs on toast with cheese, mushroom and wonderfully put together with a healthy and Indian dose of fresh green chillies. It was ultimate egg pleasure and simply irresistible.
Ghotala Pav– The recipe belongs Surat near to Mumbai. Surat is a destination of eggs, also has some amazing & innovative egg recipes that one might get on a roadside. Nowadays, it serves all over India, but the originality belongs to Surat.
This meal had fried eggs(sunny side up) covered with mutton keema like a dome shape as well as garnished with coriander leaves. Served along with a pair of pav.
Bhuna Chicken Sandwich– The sandwich prepared in a Mumbai style. The cooking process goes like boneless breast pieces mixed with spices & slowly cooked for a few minutes so that it becomes juicy enough to give robust flavours with some very thick sauce. They use slices of homemade multigrain bread layered with the chicken, grilled & served with fries.
Mutton Berry Pulao
The mutton Berry Pulao were fragrant topped with nuts, berries and fried onions. They were deliciously made with mutton, smelt great, tasted great and indeed a tasty treat. The berries left a really different flavour in the mouth which we liked.
Peanut Butter Chocolate Cheesecake – It was heavenly. Made up of peanut butter with chocolate.
Raspberry Soda and Sekanje Bin
Raspberry Soda– The beverage made of fresh strawberry pulp mixed with soda and quite refreshing.One of the iconic Parsi drink.
Sekanje Bin– The city Shiraz in Iran inspired the drink. Made up of Prunes, Jaggery topped with lemonade & mint leaves.
SodaBottleOpenerWala has everything under one roof – space, interior &a vast menu. A meal for two here is approximately Rs1200++.
