The Potbelly Rooftop Cafe,Chanakyapuri, New Delhi

The Potbelly Rooftop Cafe is a casual dining cafe in Bihar Niwas behind Yashwant Place, Chanakyapuri, New Delhi. This cafe specializes in serving delicious Bihari cuisine. Their first outlet was opened in Shahpur Jat area of South Delhi. The Bihar Niwas Cafe is their second outlet in Delhi and is good enough to visit any time of the day.

 

 

Interior- Simple wooden furniture, couches and glass top tables.  The tables are well-spaced, assuring a certain intimacy in conversation. There are wire lamps which hang in profusion in the dining area.

 

 

 

We started with a  desi drink. Sattu sweet desi cooler, which was a very refreshing summer drink. The cafe has different variants of iced teas apart from the usual peach and lemon-mint ones.

 

 The small plates on which the food is served gives one excuse to try a variety of different dishes without going overboard… or only just slightly overboard.

 

From the starters section, we tried one of their signature dish – Baggia basket – rice flour stuffed with masala wali chana dal. The puffs were exceptional, very subtle flavours and went well with the incredibly fresh coriander chutney and tomato chokha.

 

 

Meat pakora basket – crispy chicken and minced mutton pakoras with the freshest coriander and mint chutney. The meat was  deliciously tender & fresh

 

Litti Chokha Chicken Platter – This a delicacy of Bihar in which whole wheat balls stuffed with sattu is served with khada masala chicken curry and chokha.

 

Champaran style mutton platter – mutton curry served with aloo pudina ka raita, salad and moong dal pooris. The mutton was very soft  & was prepared in ghee, kali mirch, garam masala, Kasturi methi, ginger-garlic paste, onion and curd. This was one of the best platters we ever had !!  Raita served with this dish complimented it very nicely.
